"My art reflects the light, love, sadness or change captured in a moment. My inspiration is the energy of the world around me, found in my dreams, visions and life experience. The colors I choose are the closest representation of the energy and life I see in the world; from my travel, the rich cultures I have seen, and vibrant people I have met. Color is my greatest tool, and the thing which I most frequently use to express form, space, and emotions. I troubleshoot with colors, and manipulate them until I'm satisfied with how they all work together on the canvas. Many of my works contain symbolism from my life which represent the moment or people which the work is trying to capture.
While my paintings are in essence stream-of-consciousness, I frequently start with an image from my life which captures my imagination, and then see where it wants to take me. Quite frequently a photograph will inspire me to start a certain painting. Similarly, if I feel stuck during the process, I'll look at artistic photography to find images that can spark my imagination and jumpstart the progress again.
Although I love to talk to people about my art, and see the emotional reactions which it gives them, I tend to shy away from questions about my intentions. I paint from my emotions, often as a cathartic release, and would prefer for the pieces to elicit personal responses in individuals rather than explaining what I would like them to feel about the work.
My work has often been describes as "abstract expressionism." In fact, I have found much inspiration in the German expressionists. My style has changed throughout the years. I'm not work toward a specific goal, but instead hope my work will continue changing along with me and my life."
